Memphis Driver's License, Auto Tags & Registration
New residents must get TN tags and a TN driver's license within 30 days. Tennessee residents are required to carry minimum automobile insurance policies. For up-to-date information click here.
Residents living within Memphis city limits need a motor vehicle inspection first. Don't worry about bringing money yet, just documentation of your car's make, Vehicle Identification Number, year, your out of state registration information or renewal notice, and your title, if you have one. Drop by one of the following Motor Vehicle inspection stations.

Next, take the auto inspection certificate they give you, plus either your title or the complete mailing address of your lien holder, to the Shelby County Clerk's office to get tags and complete the registration process. Now's the time to bring money. There is an annual renewal fee.

All dogs and cats must be licensed and vaccinated for rabies. Fees are reduced for pets that have been spayed or neutered. Dogs must be leashed when they are away from their homes or kept behind a fence. Memphis Humane Society

Voter Registration
Voter registration is available to U.S. citizens aged 18 and older. Persons must register 30 days before an election to be eligible to vote. Applications are available at the Election Commission Office. You may also register when you get your driver's license.
